Task 1

 [1] Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
[2] Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

  1. The thirst of freedom is one of the strongest human's wishes . Lincoln , as a good public speaker , wanted to motivate his people at that difficult time . His speech helped the USA to win this battle , which was a turning point in whole war . Good job , Lincoln !

    2. When I looked at the picture , I realized , that in center of it there is a woman’s photo , well , she confused me with her exterior . Butt , let's not talk about her exterior , let’s not be superficial , let's talk about her role in life of impressive number of people . When you are a slave , you're looking only on men's behavior , when you work the whole day , you don’t put your attention on things like this . Let’s put us on a slave’s place . Imagine that you escaped from your “owner” and you trust your fate to a woman-slave like you . She rules you through this underground railroad , that is not underground at all(as my colleges mentioned) . You ask her about this strange name and see annoy on her face like an answer on it , imagine that you hear this question for 15 years . You decide to focus on what is waiting for you at the end of this trip . And the best end will be some abolitionists that will help you to find a way to a better future and not to repeat the story of Django . If you escaped from your ''owner'' , you have only 2 ways : or white people will catch you and you’ll meet your old “friend”-lash’’ or even worse , or you may join the “Southampton Insurrection” and kick some white *sses(forgive me for directness , ensure you that’s the lightest expressions used by them) , taking example from the “Nat” Turner , one the bravest man in the world , as the Harriet Tubman , her story you already know . In my opinion , he’s a man with big ball’s insistence , because you can’t stop a ball , rolling from the hill’s top of hate to iron chains and people who “awarded” you with them . He showed that people with black skin shouldn’t be treated like animals , they deserve respect . Unfortunately , his riot was the ball had been “airlessed” stopped and participants were captured . I don’t think that they died with natural death . Thanks for your attention!

    1. Abolitionists were those, people who fought against the slavery.
    2. The underground railroad was an escape route for slaves to travel from one safe house to another and head to the north. It was not a railroad and was not underground, it was called a railroad, because the way it was organized was akin to the way railroads were run.
    3. Harriet Tubman was a slave. She became notorious for helping slaves escape. She helped a number of family members escape, including her sister and her elderly parents. John Brown called her “one of the bravest persons on the continent,”
    4. T he most famous slave revolt was Nathaniel “Nat” Turner led a rebellion of slaves known as the“Southampton Insurrection” against their White owners on this day in 1831, leading to the death of more than 160 people in total. The rally would be the largest to ever be recorded by way of an uprising during the American Civil War in the southern United States.

    1.Abraham Lincoln specified the fact of equality of all people. He said that the ones who fought for their independence had already hallowed their ground and we can't ignore or forget all those events which took place long time ago. Lincoln exclaims that those who died for this idea shouln't be forgotten and their dedication shouldn't be in vain. American nation shold continue existing, remembering all scars of the past but still hoping for the better future and freedom for everyone. All these ideas are included in his famous quote: "Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth."
    2.The battle of Gettysburg was important because it was a turning and critical point in the civil war for the United States. The Battle of Gettysburg led to the end the American civil war . The Union Army won it.

  3. 1. Abolitionists were people who required abolishing slavery. Some of them helped slaves to escape from South to North and Canada.
    2. The Underground rail road was the route that helped slaves to escape secretly. It didn’t use trains and didn’t follow an underground route.
    3. Harriet Trubman was the famous conductor in the Underground rail road. She helped over 300 slaves to escape by that route. That’s why her name remembered.
    4. The most slave revolt was led by Nat Turner on the 22nd of August 1831. He and his followers began attacking whites, and soon Turner and some of the slaves were captured and put to death.
    5. Abraham Lincoln said in his speech that people who fought to the liberty in the war are in the great respect. And the nation can’t ignore the events in that war. Lincoln said that people who died shouldn’t be forgotten. And he exclaimed that the nation must live and must know that facts.
    6. The battle of the Gettysburg was the important battle in the Civil War. And the Union Army won the war.

    2. it was figuratively "underground". it was named "rail road" because of using rail termenology in the code. the Underground Railroad consisted of meeting points, secret routes, transportation, and safe houses, and assistance provided by abolitionist sympathizers.

    2) The Underground Railroad - a secret rout, which helped slaves to escape from South. It had nothing to do with trains or underground route. It went beyond the borders of the US into Canada. The homes, where slaves could hid were called "stations", and people, who helped the slaves to escape were called "conductors".
    3) Harriet Tubman was an escaped slave. She worked as a conductor on the Underground Railroad and led over 300 slaves to freedom risking her life many times.
    4) The most famous revolt was led by a slave preacher Nat Turner. It took place on August 22, 1831.

    1. He said that the world would never forget what the soldiers had done on that battlefield, that people hadn't died in vain, that their nation would have a new birth of freedom and and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth. It was encouraging speech for the army of Union forces.
    2. The battle was important because for the Civil war it was decisive. The Confederate leaders believed that if they won the battle the Union forces would surrender. They also hoped that they would destroy the main Union position on a hill called Cemetery Ridge. But they didn't manage to do it and, finally, lost. The victory went to the North army.

    3) Harriet Tubman was a black woman. She was an escaped slave and was considered the most famous "conductor" on the Underground Railroad. Harriet Tubman warked for 15 years as a conductor and led over 300 slaves to liberty. She become prominent because she risked her life many times to rescue other slaves.
    4) The most famous revolt was led by a slave preacher named Nat Turner. It take place on August 22, 1831, when Turner and his followers began atacking whites. They soon were captured and put to death. By the end of that rebellion, more than 150 people, black and white, had died.

    1) Abraham Lincoln speaks about the equality of all people. He adresses to all nation, to fight for their rights, to fight for their land, for their freedom and never forget the people who died for this cause. He calls the people to finish this work - to built a strong base on which will grow a new world, a new power - a strong and fearless nation. He belives in a big future for his people and he knows that just togeder they will be successfully.
    2) The Gettysburg battle was the decisive battle of the Civil War. In June 1863 Lee marched into Pennsylvania. The Union army met Lee's ar,y at Gettysburg ob July 1.The Confederates bravely fought but they were defeated. Pickett's attack was the turning point of the war, till the end North won the Civil War.

Their guides were called 'conductors' and they led them from one 'stations' to another. It was the road to freedom.
    3)Harriet Tubman was a former slave, who run away from the plantation, but returns to rescue others. Her name is remembered for her courage and bravery, she risked her life many times to rescue other slaves.
    4)The most famous slave revolt was led by a slave named Nat Turner. It took place on August 22,1831. Turner and his accomplices killed his master’s family as they lay sleeping. From there, the small band of about 70 slaves moved from house to house, eventually killing over 50 whites with clubs, knives and muskets. It took a militia force to put down the rebellion, and Turner and 55 other slaves were captured and later executed by the state.

    1) Abolitionists were people who wanted to abolish slavery. They claimed it through holding meetings and writing articles about the evils of slavery. Some of them helped slaves to escape from South.
    2) The Underground Railroad was a secrete route which helped slaves to escape from South. This road wasn’t underground and people didn’t used trains. The slaves walked on a footpath and were guided by people who were called “conductors”.
    3) Harriet Tubman was the most famous conductor who helped many slaves to escape. Her name was remembered, because she risked her life rescuing them. Slave owners offered 40,000 $ for capturing her, dead or alive. But no one could catch her.
    4) Nad Turner was the most famous person who led a slave revolt. He attacked whites on August 22, 1831, together with his followers. But soon they were captured and put to death.

    1) Black people should have the same rights as the white ones. This is the main message that Lincoln tried to emphasize in his speech. Everyone who came in the New World is considered to be part of a nation, and should be considered equal to the others. He explains the role of the war, and why people should fight for these slaves. A strong nation may be created only uniting the forces and fighting together for the liberty and freedom.
    2) The battle of Gettysburg was a decisive one. The war decided whether the slavery will be abolished or not. After a struggle of a year, the North won and the slavery was totally abolished.

    2. Well, if we take into consideration that one slave did "cost" up to 3.000-4.000 depending on gender, age, work skills and physical condition
      Guess they offered so much, cause they thought "The higher the reward, the more likely people would search for her".

    2) The Underground Railroad was a network that helped runaway slaves escape to the North and it did no usetrains and wasn't like an underground route The Underground Railroad also had conductors that helped the slaves to avoid being seen.
    3) Harriet Tubman it is the most known conductor from The Underground Railroad. Tubman was born a slave in Maryland's Dorchester County around 1820. She helped a lot of slaves to escape from South, to North. She gave them the libery and many times she rescued her life in this trips.

Also a good idea he said was that all the men are equal.

  11. This is the reason why I do really miss your lessons Mrs. Irene!! ....
    Don't think I should, and don't have the right, I guess, in a way, to answer to the questions as many 1st years students already did it.
    All mentioned above, and the information I read in order to be able to answer to the tasks, is very helpful and important. As slavery was and still remains a black and dark point in the history of humanity. As A.Lincoln said and from my personal point of view.... we all are free, free in our actions and free people and everyone should preserve the human rights and never act against them. We should fight, over and over again, if needed, to make everyone in this enormous world, understand that we were born free and equal. We all live on the same planet, all have the same rights, all fight for what we think is worth fighting for and each one of us must understand the true meaning of "white" and "black" since in the end we all die, but some are forgotten and some are not.
    Slavery, as well as holocaust - is and will remain for ever as one of the most horrible events in the history.
    A man killing, bullying, hurting another man - what can be more shameful than that?
    I am sure of other things coming upon our humanity, same rotten as slavery, since the society, I guess cannot live in peace.
    Skin colour, gender, views, traditions, culture, the way a person looks like, style of living, language etc - none of these matters, what matters is that each and every one of us is Human.

    P.S. there's this movie 12 Years A Slave, based on real facts and events. About a free man being kidnapped and sold into slavery. He had a family, a social status, he was free, but he had a dark colour of the skin.

      P.S. BTW, we watched some parts from the movies you mentioned during the lesson. Another one that is based on true historic facts is AMISTAD - a black man was captured by his fellows from Africa and sold into slavery to Spanish ship. He revolted, and with the help of abolitionists got his right to come back to Africa to his family.
